Lana Whitehead remembers pausing to make a spur-of-the-moment donation to a major children's cancer research hospital. With 1-year-old Blake in tow, she purchased a paper bear to pin up with the others, chatting softly about how good it was to take a few moments to help the sick kids who were off in that faraway hospital.
